Kosovo’s judicial system exists to serve the public interest. Kosovo’s judicial system belongs to all citizens of Kosovo regardless of their national origin, ethnicity or gender.

Basic Court of Gjakova is one of seven courts in the Republic of Kosovo. Basic Court of Gjakova has two branches: in Malisheva and in Rahovec. Basic Court of Gjakova and two of its branches provide easier access to the services of the court of the first instance to the population of the region under the jurisdiction of the Basic Court of Gjakova including 168 (One hundred and sixty eight) villages.

As a court of first instance, the Basic Court of Gjakova and two of its branches deal with all kinds of cases. These cases are handled by specialized departments that operate within each basic court.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The branches of the court in Rahovec and Malisheva deal only with cases that are the competence of the General Department. Cases that fall under the competence of two other departments are resolved by the Basic Court in Gjakova.

Basic Court in Gjakova is the main headquarter of the Judicial Region of Gjakova which covers the municipalities of:

-Gjakova
-Malisheve
-Rahovec

Court branches serve as a geographical subdivision of the Basic Court and are located in Rahovec and Malisheva. The municipality of Malisheva is served from the branch of Malisheva while the municipality of Rahovec is served from the branch in Rahovec. Gjakova municipality is served from its Basic Court.
